A Year in Review, 2018

Albeit redundant to say the same sentence year after year, it is safe to say that this year has been the busiest, craziest, most stressful year in the history of Grain Designs. Quite frankly, that may also be the understatement of the year! However, as the days wind down and a new year is upon us, the feelings of stress and anxiety have faded and the sense of pride and accomplishment in our work over the last year permeates.

Between getting a crash course in loans and purchasing property, opening a retail store, hiring new employees, opening The Pines Weddings and Events Venue, and the Bresnahan wedding, we still found time to have fun and work on some custom projects as well. They say a picture is worth a thousand words – We’ll let these photos tell the rest of the story!

New Team Members!

In our year of growth and expansion, we were able to hire our first two full-time employees. A special welcome to Cody Freestone (above), and Zach Nelson (below.) They both came on board and were able to immediately step into their roles as builders and awesome team members. We absolutely couldn’t have made this year happen without them!

We got the opportunity to work with Lululemon again as they expanded their space in West Acres Mall! We did a whitewashed 12″ reclaimed white pine for the storefront, refinished the A-frame structure, and built a table set as well. Be sure to check it out next time you are at West Acres.

Our team also got to collaborate with All Finish Concrete again on custom signage and artwork in their amazing office space.

Celebratory shots on the day we found out we secured a loan. The Pines, something we had envisioned for so long, was going to become a reality!

One of our most unique custom tables with a built-in trough, filled with rock in the center, for a beautiful cabin on Lake Melissa. How beautiful is this?

Grain Designs Furniture and Mercantile Store

Early summer was spent preparing and opening the Grain Designs Furniture and Mercantile Store in South Fargo. As things always seem to go in construction, we were a few days behind schedule for opening the doors. However, we couldn’t be happier with the final outcome!

Our vision was a very simple and clean interior with the option to purchase items off the floor of the store, but also a large section dedicated to custom orders, where customers can come meet with an expert and design and build their desired piece.

We were contacted by Scheels to do a photo shoot at our shop while wearing some of their brands! Who’s going to say no to free clothes and a day off work?!

The boys played in the annual Hatch Realty golf tournament along with our friend Patrick Kirby!

We built all new desks for a bank in Hazen, ND that turned out great. The re-design of their space really matched our style and everything came together perfectly.

Despite all the role changes and growth happening, you’ll still find each of us doing our part in the shop from time to time!

The Pines Wedding & Event Venue

Without question, the construction of The Pines was the biggest project of the year. We spent countless hours throughout the summer preparing the property and praying for the building to be complete in time for Pat and Nicolette’s wedding in September. We had a ton of help from family and friends in painting, landscaping, building and staining tables, mowing the lawn, cleaning, and everything else it took to get ready for the big day!

The day finally arrived and the rain stayed away. Everything went off without a hitch! The building wasn’t 100% complete, but it didn’t matter, the guests had a great time as did the happy couple.

Fast forward a couple months and The Pines was finally fully complete! A special thank you to Taylor at Epic Homes and everyone else who worked on the construction of The Pines. It turned out even more amazing than we imagined. We cannot wait to kick off our first wedding season in 2019! We’ve got so much in store for you this year. Cheers!
