Finishes on Reclaimed White Pine

We have a long history at Grain Designs of rotating our preferred wood species. With those updated preferences and ongoing trends, we phase out different woods and look for alternatives. Sometimes these updates our out of necessity because of a supply limitations and other times it is simply because demand for that species has started to falter.

Reclaimed white pine, having been one of our favorites over the last decade, is being added to the list of species by request only. This doesn’t eliminate the usefulness of the white pine finishes that you see inside this blog, but instead, we have found that knotty alder and douglas fir has stained extremely similar to our white pine while also being more widely available in our area as well as having more popularity in modern home construction offering a higher likeliood of stain matching your table to your cabinets, trim, etc.

White pine still has its place with us at Grain Designs however. If you’re looking for a farmhouse style dining table, with our always popular Badlands X-Brace or Oxbow Trestle style bases, we can always try and source some white pine specifically for your project!
